Underlying cause of the dangerous earthquakes in the Himalayas is the collision of Indian Plate with the Eurasian Plate. When the two plates collide stress builds up. The plate bends due to the stress and when the bond breaks the plate rebounds to its origional form. This causes a shock or an earthquake. When the Indian Plate collided with the Eurasian the land between buckled up to form the Himalaya Mountain Chain. Still there is a lot of stress near the two boundary plates. About every year there is a minor or a severe earthquake experience. These earthquakes range from 2-8 on the Richter Scale. These earthquakes are so strong that they cut the communication between the Himalayas and the rest of the world. There have been several landslides due to the earthquakes caused by the collision of the two plates.
Above you can see how the Indian Plate is causing stress while colliding with the Eurasian Plate
